The French striker scored three goals to secure a decisive 5-0 (1-0) victory against underdogs Kairat Almaty of Kazakhstan. With six points from two matches, the team's Champions League campaign got off to a successful start, thanks in large part to Mbappé. The exceptional striker already has five goals to his name.
However, just as in their opening 2-1 victory against Olympique Marseille, Real Madrid struggled against Champions League newcomers from Almaty. Although Alonso's team dominated in the Kazakh metropolis, only Mbappé scored before halftime, converting a penalty in the 25th minute. 18-year-old Franco Mastantuono had been fouled in the penalty area by goalkeeper Sherkhan Kalmursa.
