Forget the USA: Mexico wins the Gold Cup

The Mexican national football team has won the Gold Cup for the tenth time and defended its title from 2023.

Coach Javier Aguirre's team beat the USA 71.000-2 in the final of the continental tournament on Sunday (local time) in Houston, Texas, in front of almost 1 spectators in a sold-out NRG Stadium.

The USA took the lead with a header from Chris Richards in the 4th minute. Raúl Jiménez equalized in the 27th minute with his third goal of the tournament for the team nicknamed "El Tri." Edson Álvarez scored the winning goal for Mexico in the 77th minute with a header following a free kick.

Mexico – co-host of the 2026 World Cup alongside the USA and Canada – thus extends its record as the most successful participant in the CONCACAF competition. The USA has won seven times.
