98 fatal seconds: Kaltern's disastrous slip-up

On the 17th matchday of the IHL, the Falcons Brixen caused a huge surprise against league leaders SV Kaltern.

SV Kaltern has been the dominant team of the IHL season so far, having amassed 44 out of a possible 48 points and leading the standings by a considerable margin. However, on Saturday, the Pike suffered a disastrous defeat. They were thrashed 0-4 by Falcons Brixen, a team from the lower end of the table.

In front of 87 spectators at the Kaltern Raiffeisen Arena, Brixen caught the league leaders cold in the second period. Within 98 seconds, the team from the Überetsch region conceded three goals. Nicolas Pezzetta (25th minute), Gabriel Lanz (26th minute), and Tobia Pisetta (27th minute) quickly gave Brixen a 3-0 lead. Goaltender Lorenzo Marinelli then put on a stellar performance, and Gabriel Vinatzer added a fourth goal in the final period, securing a surprising and resounding victory for the Eisack Valley team.

Eppan loses

HC Eppan suffered a 3-4 defeat. In the Neumarkt Würth Arena (where the Überetsch team had to relocate due to construction work at their own stadium), Valpellice took the three points. In a closely contested match, Joonas Oskari Savolainen scored the decisive goal in the final period. Meanwhile, HC 3 Zinnen Dolomites suffered a crushing 2-8 loss against Alleghe.
