It couldn't be more dramatic: Toblach celebrates first victory

The HC 3 Zinnen Dolomites did it: In their sixth attempt, the Eisbären celebrated their first win of the season in the Italian Hockey League (IHL). The outcome of the game couldn't have been more dramatic, with a 5-4 victory.

On Saturday evening, the task for HC 3 Zinnen could hardly have been more difficult: As the bottom team with no points, the South Tyroleans traveled to Alleghe, which, together with HC Aosta, led the IHL standings with 12 points before the matchday. The game got off to a particularly poor start from the Eisbären's perspective: Edgar de Toni (16:45) and Patrick Isiguzo (17:47) put the home side 2-0 ahead, and Francesco Soppelsa seemingly sealed the victory after just under 23 minutes. What followed, however, was a barrage of goals from Toblach.

Randen Schmidt, Pavlo Atamanchuk's double, and Hector Majul turned the game around in favor of HC 3 Zinnen, who suddenly led 4-3 in the final period – and scored more goals in 22 minutes than they had so far this season. However, with two and a half minutes left in the game, Isiguzo equalized at 4-4, forcing overtime. The game ultimately came down to a penalty shootout: The first seven shooters missed their chances, and Majul put the puck in the net. When Atte Huhtela finally missed for Alleghe, Toblach secured their first two points of the season.

Kaltern's new signing continues to shoot

Meanwhile, SV Kaltern faced a challenge at the Brixen ice stadium. The reigning champions were looking for three points away from home – but the Falcons made life difficult for the visitors. The tenth-placed team fired 24 shots at the opponent's goal, but the Eisacktaler lacked composure. However, they did have that on the other side: Mikael Saha put Kaltern ahead in the opening period (5:15), and just a few minutes later, Bogdan Stupak equalized (14:54). Moritz Selva ultimately sealed the victory in the final period (45:32).

With Saha, a new signing once again took center stage. The 30-year-old Finn, who moved from Cortina to Kaltern in the summer, has eleven points after six appearances in the IHL. With seven goals, he has scored a third of SV's goals so far, which now sits on 14 points in the standings, still just one point behind Aosta.

HC Eppan follows three points behind Kaltern. The Pirates celebrated their third consecutive win with their 5-3 victory over the Valpellice Bulldogs and are in fifth place with twelve points.
