In a heated final: Kaltern breaks its cup curse

Huge celebrations at SV Kaltern: On Sunday, the Pike team secured the cup victory in Milan. It was a heated final between the team from the Überetsch region and their rivals Alleghe.

SV Kaltern and the Coppa Italia – it's been a cursed affair for them in recent years. In 2023, 2024, and 2025, the "Pike" (as they are nicknamed) reached the cup final each time, but always came up short. This curse has now been broken: At the Milano Hockey Finals in the brand-new Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena, the team from Kaltern defeated Alleghe 5-0.

In the Italian Hockey League – the country's third-highest league – Kaltern and Alleghe have been the teams to beat so far. In the cup final, the two sides engaged in a heated duel, racking up no fewer than 59 penalty minutes – 45 for Alleghe and 14 for Kaltern. Alleghe's Francesco Soppelsa was sent to the ice with a match penalty after a check to Giovanni Reffo's head (28th minute). Emotions ran high, especially in the final period, as Alleghe became increasingly frustrated by the impending defeat.

Kaltern kept their composure throughout the entire match and laid the foundation for their victory after just 41 seconds when Mikael Saha scored the opening goal, 1-0, following a fine assist from Maximilian Sölva and a mistake by Alleghe goalie Sandro Lancedelli. Florian Wieser (24th minute) and Moritz Selva (44th minute) then extended the lead, each scoring on the power play. In the final minutes of the match, Wieser again (on a 5-on-3 power play, 56th minute) and Joonas Oskari Alanne (58th minute) sealed the resounding 5-0 victory.

Kaltern's goalkeeper was outstanding

Besides Wieser (two goals, one assist) and Saha (one goal, three assists), another Kaltern player stood out that evening: Goalie Samuel Rohregger had a perfect game, stopping all 16 shots and leading his Kaltern team to the cup victory with a shutout. This is the second Coppa Italia triumph for the Pike after 2019.
