SV Kaltern's start to the season has been almost perfect. Of their first 13 league matches, the team from the Überetsch region won a full dozen and suffered only one defeat – against their arch-rivals from Eppan, no less. Accordingly, the reigning champions had only one goal: revenge.
The league leaders set the tone right from the first period, taking a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes thanks to goals from Florian Wieser and Mikael Saha. In the second period, the hosts secured the three points early. Andreas Vinatzer, who scored twice, and Joonas Alanne extended the lead to 5-0. Andreas Radin scored a consolation goal for the Pirates in the 51st minute – the final score was 5-1.
Defeats for the remaining South Tyroleans
Neither Brixen nor the Toblach Icebears had a successful evening. While the Eisack Valley team lost 1-4 away to Valpellice, the team from the Puster Valley suffered a narrow defeat against Pergine (3-4).IHL, Saturday's results:
