Kaltern turns up the heat at home – Falcons get under the wheels

SV Kaltern and the Eppan Pirates have cemented their place at the top of the Italian Hockey League thanks to two victories. The Brixen Falcons, on the other hand, suffered a heavy defeat on Saturday evening.

One week after the bitter derby defeat against Eppan (4:6) and missing the lead in the table, the Pikes have redeemed themselves. At home, the Caldaro team celebrated a 3:1 victory over Pergine – but had to overcome an initial setback. The visitors took the lead (18:03), only for Mikael Saha to equalize just five minutes later.

Coach Teemu Virtala's team then lived up to their role as favorites, virtually overpowering Pergine with a 37-18 shot advantage. A brace from Moritz Selva ultimately secured the three points they deserved. SV now holds eleven points in the standings, just one point behind HC Aosta, who beat the still pointless bottom-placed HC 3 Zinnen Dolomites 3-0 in Toblach.

Pirates cheer after wild ride

The hockey club from Eppan experienced a rodeo. The Pirates took the lead three times against Feltre, and the South Tyroleans finally held on to their third. Jack Williamson scored the final goal in the 58th minute to make it 3-2. In the standings, Eppan is waiting for a slip-up from the top three; with new points from five games, the HC is in a strong fourth place.

In Brixen, however, their form continues to decline. After their opening win against Valdifiemme, the Falcons have consistently left the ice as losers, but their three defeats have been relatively modest – that wasn't the case on Saturday. In their away game against Varese, the city's team suffered a hefty 9-1 defeat, leaving them stuck in tenth place in the bottom of the table.
