Hungry for the derby: Foxes devour the league leaders
Bolzano is racing from victory to victory! The resurgent HCB Südtirol Alperia put on a masterful performance against record champions Klagenfurt on New Year's Day, sending a very clear signal to their arch-rivals in Bruneck.

HCB Südtirol Alperia defeated Klagenfurter AC 2-1 in overtime in their own arena, impressively making it clear: The derby against Pustertal can begin!
Two days before the third season showdown between the two arch-rivals The Wolves lost to the Pioneers Vorarlberg 5:6 after a penalty shootout.Meanwhile, Bolzano also had to put in extra work in Klagenfurt – albeit with a completely different reward. The Foxes dominated the game, firing 19 more shots than the league leaders and ultimately securing the bonus point thanks to Shane Gersich.
The fact that they only managed two points instead of three is something the Red-Whites can probably live with – especially since they showed a clear upward trend in their third consecutive game and ultimately celebrated their fifth win in six games under coach Doug Shedden. He rested the injured Daniel Frank and fielded an unchanged lineup against the KAC, who were hampered by six absences – with success.
Team spirit as a formula for success
Because Bolzano played like a top team in this high-class top-of-the-table clash. Sam Harvey made some brilliant saves in defense, the defenders closed down the spaces effectively, and Matt Bradley, Brad McClure, and company displayed a strong attacking drive. Notably, since Shedden took over as coach, HCB has been working as a team, both offensively and defensively. The highlights
| Autsch! | Both teams went all out. The result? Injuries on both sides. Bolzano's Misley was hit in the head by Nickl with a borderline check and had to go to the locker room for treatment. Minutes later, the game was over for KAC forward Lam. He was sent flying into the boards by Brunner. In the final period, Valentine also caught Schwinger with a reckless open-ice hit, requiring medical attention once again. |
| From, who else? | HCB goalie Harvey initially made heroic saves against van Ee and Kempe, but then From beat him for the first time with a sharp shot from the face-off circle (26'). His goal to make it 1-0 was his 20th of the season, putting him level with league-leading scorer McClure. |
| Frigo – again | The equalizer by the steadily improving Bolzano team bears Frigo's signature. He finished the old year with his 100th goal in an HCB jersey and started the new one with the crucial goal to make it 1-1. He was sent on his way by Valentine and scored in a one-on-one with KAC goalie Dahm. |
| Gersich does it | After Klagenfurt's Petersen hit the outside of the post and McClure hit the woodwork at the other end, the game went into overtime. At the end of overtime, Gersich scored the winning goal for Bolzano. He surprised Dam from the left side, the puck rebounded off the goalie's stick and fluttered under the crossbar (65th minute). |
If there's anything to criticize the Foxes for this evening, it's their power play. They had over ten minutes of man advantage in total, but failed to score a single goal. This likely didn't go unnoticed in Bruneck, where HC Pustertal will be looking to bounce back on Saturday (starting at 7:45 p.m.). SportNews-Ticker) Stop Bolzano's upward trend.
