The Wolves' currently best striker, who has scored 38 points in 42 games so far this season, will move to Genève-Servette HC in the highest Swiss league. The move from Bruneck to Geneva will take place at the end of the current season.
From ninth place in the ICE Hockey League to the current Champions League winner, how can that be? It's simple: Akeson, who played 22 NHL games before his time in South Tyrol and was twice the DEL top scorer, will receive a Swiss passport next September and will therefore no longer be considered a foreigner in Central Europe's best league. The 34-year-old Canadian is married to a Swiss woman.
Swiss passport for Akeson
Servette announced on Wednesday morning that Akeson had signed a two-year contract. He had signed a similar agreement with HC Pustertal in the summer of 2023. "A special thank you goes to all Wolves fans. You have always supported us. Even when things didn't go as planned - I really appreciate that," said Akeson in a farewell letter that the HCP published after the announcement of the upcoming move. It continued: "The Pustertal has become a real home for my wife and daughter over the last two years.""We still have a mission to accomplish" Jason Akeson
Now Bruneck should remain the Akesons' home for as long as possible in the spring, because "we still have a mission to complete. We definitely want to get into the playoffs and go as far as possible!" writes the star striker. As soon as this mission is accomplished, the next, even greater task awaits him in Switzerland. Then he wants to score points for Servette as successfully as he is currently doing with HCP.
