Before the derby: An HCB evening to forget
That was nothing: Just before the South Tyrolean ICE derby against HC Pustertal, HC Bozen embarrassed itself on Friday evening in the home Sparkasse Arena.

Many would not have thought it possible: HCB Südtirol Alperia, the previous leader of the ICE Hockey League, lost 1:3 at home to bottom-placed Pioneer Vorarlberg on Friday evening. And that just two days before the derby against their arch-rivals from Bruneck. At the same time, the Wolves beat Innsbruck 4-1.
One thing to note: The HCB was the better team than the guests from the Ländle and fired 45 shots on goal - 20 more than their opponents. But David Madlener exceeded his own expectations in goal for the Pioneers on one or two occasions. Hanlon's team also failed to score on several occasions when it hit the goal post. Incidentally, Gianluca Vallini was back between the posts for the Foxes on Friday. He was not to blame for the defeat.
The Foxes not only lacked efficiency, but also some of their body language. On Sunday evening at 18 p.m. against HC Pustertal, an improvement in performance is required. What else was noticeable: It was unusually quiet on Friday in the ice hockey temple of Bozen South. It was only in the final third - just before the equalizer - that a little atmosphere emerged. Otherwise, one is used to something different from the Bozen fan curve.
The highlights
| Foxes in Hibernation | The HCB slept through the early stages of the game and was not yet up to speed. After nine minutes, Vorarlberg took the lead after a counterattack. The Foxes then pushed for an equalizer, but had no luck. |
| Finally Emotions | At the beginning of the second period, Bozen scored what appeared to be an equalizer through Salinitri. However, the goal was disallowed by the referees after video evidence was reviewed. The Bozen fans then booed the referees. |
| The redemption | Just as the HCB fans start to get excited, the home team equalizes. After a shot by Miglioranzi, Frigo converts the rebound. |
| Valentine's Day blackout | Valentine, of all people, made a serious mistake in front of his own goal in the final phase. The puck went to Sowder, who put Vorarlberg back in the lead four minutes before the end of the third period. |
