The violent fan riots at the Summer Classic tournament in Bolzano caused quite a stir. EHC Kloten has now issued a detailed statement.

It was the number one topic of conversation at the Sparkasse Arena in Bolzano this weekend: During the Summer Classic tournament in the state capital, violent fan riots broke out. In the middle of it all: the EHC Kloten ultras. On Saturday evening Around 60 masked supporters of the Swiss club attacked the fans of HC Bozen, then they rioted in the hotel and were finally escorted to the Swiss border by the special police unit Digos.

This was the biggest disappointment in an otherwise friendly ice hockey festival. Now, EHC Kloten has spoken out and issued a statement addressing the incidents. The club is harshly criticizing its "fans."

The club's statement

"Unfortunately, a friendly and essentially peaceful tournament, which is also an important part of EHC Kloten's preseason preparation, was overshadowed by riots. EHC Kloten supporters played a significant role in these riots and disturbances, which were also reported in various media outlets. A police officer was injured," Kloten's statement begins.
“We will do everything we can to provide the authorities with the best possible and active support and to identify the perpetrators.” Statement EHC Kloten

"On behalf of EHC Kloten Sport AG, we would like to sincerely apologize to the organizer, all peaceful spectators, residents, and local authorities. EHC Kloten Sport AG distances itself from any form of violence, such acts, the riots, and all persons who were involved in them in any way. Such behavior is in no way consistent with the values our organization represents and will not be tolerated by EHC Kloten under any circumstances," Kloten continued.

Kloten took part in the Summer Classic.

"We distance ourselves not only from the perpetrators on the front lines, but also from all those who protect, support, or represent them—in other words, from any direct or indirect support. Representatives of EHC Kloten Sport AG have been in intensive contact with all authorities and the event organizer since Sunday to investigate the events. We will do everything we can to actively support the authorities as best as possible and to identify the perpetrators," Kloten said.

Consequences for the perpetrators

The Swiss club has announced consequences. "EHC Kloten will implement several measures in the coming days and weeks and actively engage with all relevant agencies, the police, and representatives of the National League. Our organization is prepared to accept that certain measures may also impact the atmosphere in the stadium. A peaceful stadium visit, whether in Kloten or in away stadiums, is our top priority. Turning a blind eye is not part of our culture. People who are part of or support such groups have no place in our ranks."

In conclusion, the club emphasizes: "For EHC Kloten, such tournaments or friendly matches are important in the preseason. We would like to continue receiving invitations to tournaments and events in the future. Such incidents are absolutely unacceptable in this regard and damage the organization's reputation."
