Dramatic victory for Detroit legend: It doesn't get more cinematic than this.

The evening could hardly have gone better from the perspective of the Detroit Red Wings: The traditional club from the Motor City defeated the Carolina Hurricanes in a dramatic manner, thus crowning a special game.

The narrow 4-3 overtime victory at Little Caesars Arena not only earned the home team two points, but also provided a fitting sporting conclusion to a special game. Andrew Copp delivered the decisive blow in overtime, scoring the game-winning goal after just over three and a half minutes.

Despite goals from Blake, Jarvis, and Gostisbehere, Carolina only managed a single point. Their four-game winning streak came to an end, even though the Hurricanes rallied strongly in the final period.

However, the true focus of the evening lay elsewhere than the score. Sergei Fedorov, one of the most influential figures in the club's history, was honored before the first face-off when his number 91 jersey was permanently raised to the arena's rafters.

With this ceremony, it is now official that this jersey number will no longer be issued in Detroit. Fedorov's legacy is impressive: three Stanley Cup victories and 954 points in 908 games – including 400 goals and 554 assists – mark an extraordinary career in a Red Wings jersey.
