Kasper scores and Ovechkin is close to the record
Marco Kasper scored the opening goal (5th) in the Detroit Red Wings’ 4-4 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday evening (local time).

It was the 20-year-old Carinthian striker's tenth goal of the current NHL season. The other Detroit goals in regular time were scored by Alex DeBrincat (5th), Patrick Kane (6th) and JT Compher (23rd), each in the power play. After the Ducks' late equalizer, Kane (64th) sealed Detroit's victory in overtime.
The American's second goal was assisted by the Austrian Kasper. With the win against Anaheim, the Red Wings successfully defended their place in the play-off rankings.
Ovechkin chases Gretzky record
Meanwhile, Alexander Ovechkin came one step closer to Wayne Gretzky's all-time goal record in the North American ice hockey league. The 39-year-old Russian scored three times in his Washington Capitals' 7-3 home win over the Edmonton Oilers and now has 882 goals in the NHL regular season. He is only twelve goals away from Gretzky's record (894).Ovechkin scored the goals to make it 3-1 (29th) and 4-1 (39th/PP) and scored into the empty net to make it the final score (58th). He has already scored 29 times this season. With the clear victory against the team featuring superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, the Capitals are once again the team with the most points in the league.
