The Red Wings are unbeatable in penalty shootouts.

The Detroit Red Wings continue to be a top contender in the NHL – also because they are now incredibly strong not only on home ice.

The Detroit Red Wings are currently on a grueling five-game road trip in the West. On Sunday, they played their third game in four days and celebrated a two-point victory, defeating the San Jose Red Wings 3-2 in a shootout at the SAP Center.

The main reasons for the Red Wings' success were James van Riemsdyk as the fourth shooter in the shootout and goalkeeper Cam Talbot, who thwarted all four attempts by the Sharks.

The Red Wings have a 5-0 record and a 100% success rate in shootouts since the 2024-25 season. Along with the Rangers (1-0) and the Predators (3-0), they are among the top teams in this category during this period.

With their recent double point win, the Red Wings solidified their second-place position in the Atlantic Division. Their next appearance, concluding their away tour, is on Tuesday against the Vegas Golden Knights, who currently sit in second place in the Pacific Division.

The NHL results from Sunday (local time):

Utah Mammoth – Tampa Bay Lightning 2:4
New York Islanders – Columbus Blue Jackets 3:2
Philadelphia Flyers – Calgary Flames 1:2
Anaheim Ducks – New Jersey Devils 4:1
San José Sharks – Detroit Red Wings 2:3 nP
