Victory in the Swiss duel: Fiala celebrates with the Kings

Two games were played in the NHL last night. The focus was on the duel between the Los Angeles Kings and the Vancouver Canucks, in which one Swiss player spoiled the other's place in the playoffs.

Pius Suter faced a big opportunity with the Vancouver Canucks. A win against fellow Swiss Kevin Fiala and the Los Angeles Kings would have made the Canadians the first NHL team to qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs. But this plan went wrong as the Kings won 3-2.

In the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, which was sold out with almost 19.000 spectators, Kevin Fiala gave the Kings the early lead. Canucks striker Sam Lafferty was able to equalize a short time later, but in the middle period Blake Lizotte and Anze Kopitan set the course for an away win.

The Kings have now won six of their last eight games. The championship lead still belongs to the Canucks, who are still the best team in the West with 98 points. The Vegas Golden Knights are also on course for the playoffs, defending their wildcard spot with a 2-1 win after overtime against the St. Louis Blues.
