Azzurre thrash Norway in opening match

The three-team tournament, featuring Italy's women's national team, kicked off in Bolzano on Friday evening. The Azzurre celebrated a commanding victory.

Three months before the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, the two test matches against Norway and Austria are considered important benchmarks for Italy's women's team. While the latter emerged as a newcomer to the top division at the recent World Championships, the Scandinavians will be among Italy's opponents at next year's Division IA World Championship tournament in Budapest – strong competition indeed. It's fortunate, then, that the hosts were able to secure a commanding 4-0 victory over Norway in the Sparkasse Arena in Bolzano.

While the first period was marred by numerous fouls and penalty kills, Italy finally broke through the Norwegian defense in the second. The Azzurre maintained their high tempo in the second period, increasingly putting their opponents under pressure, and were ultimately rewarded. In the 33rd minute (32:19), Marta Mazzocchi capitalized on a rebound from the Norwegian goaltender, giving Italy a 1-0 lead.

Azzurre leave nothing to chance

Just a few minutes later, Anna Caumo increased the lead to 2-0 after another rebound, giving the Italians a comfortable advantage going into the second intermission. The hosts didn't let up in the final period either. Italy remained dominant and added a third goal through Kayla Tutino.

Italy gave Norway no chance.

Manuela Heidenberger finally sealed the victory, scoring the fourth goal in the 59th minute (59:49) while the team had a player advantage – a deserved end to a dominant performance by the Azzurre. The Azzurre's campaign continues on Sunday with their final match against Austria (1 p.m.).
