Three games, three wins, 20 goals scored, and not a single goal conceded: The Azzurre couldn't have been more dominant in Scotland so far. Anna Cauma and Co. didn't give the previously unbeaten Latvians a chance on Saturday evening either. Italy won convincingly 6-0, scoring two goals in each period. The Azzurre now have their sights set on promotion to Division 14A. A win against South Korea on Sunday at XNUMX p.m. will ensure they remain firmly in first place.
Matilde Fantin, just 18 years old, opened the scoring in the 13th minute, storming out of the penalty box and thwarting Latvian goalie Kristiana Apsite with a beautiful solo effort. Eight seconds before the end of the period, Brunico's Anna Caumo, who powered through down the right flank, increased the lead to 2-0. Early in the middle period, the Azzurre were lucky when Hanna Strause hit the post. A short time later, Amie Varano sealed the victory with a 3-0 lead. A direct shot from Franziska Stocker then made it 4-0 for the favorites.
Kristin Della Rovere further increased the score in the final period on the power play, before Fantin secured the 6-0 lead with a deflection. After 60 minutes, the Azzurre had 48 shots on goal, while Latvia fired just XNUMX shots on goal, guarded by Martina Fedel, who celebrated her third (!) consecutive shutout.
