With a furore: Italy's women ice hockey team rises

Six years of third-division football are over! Italy's women's national ice hockey team completed its return to Division I (Group A) on Sunday. With a thrilling goal fest, they won the gold medal.

The Azzurre are dominating the Division I (Group) World Championship in Dumfries, Scotland. Following their 7-0 victory against South Korea on Sunday afternoon, they are already confirmed as tournament champions and promoted. This marks the Blue Team's return to the second-highest division for the first time since 2019.

Italy has played four matches at the current World Cup so far, winning four and scoring a whopping 27 goals. Goalkeeper Martina Fedel hasn't conceded a single goal throughout the entire tournament.

The Azzurre celebrated their fourth shutout victory against a completely overwhelmed South Korean team. Manuela Heidenberger and her team fired 40 shots on goal (South Korea's only 16), seven of which went in. Particularly noteworthy: seven different players were on the scoresheet.

Italy's final appearance, on Tuesday (21 p.m.) against the hosts from Great Britain, will therefore only be a show.
