Italy's women's national team is expected to play more than just a supporting role at the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina and at the upcoming World Cup.
Coach Stephanie Poirier's team recently played two friendly matches against Japan and the same number against Slovakia. FISG President Andrea Gios and officials watched the Azzurre perform in Val Gardena – and had plenty of praise for the team.
Two training camps in Canada
To ensure Italy is in top form for the Olympics in February, the team will also be provided with top-class training camps. On November 23, the Blue Team will depart for Canada for a month (!) before returning home for Christmas. Shortly afterwards, on January 20, the Italians will depart for Canada again, where they will be in Montreal to fine-tune their team for the Olympics. In Canada, the Azzurre will undergo the full program: training sessions, friendly matches against local teams, team-building sessions, and fitness training sessions. In addition to the highlight of the Olympic Games, the World Championships are also on the agenda for April. These will take place from April 12 to 19 in Hungary's capital, Budapest.
