Sinner's next opponent is Novak Djokovic

The French Open in Paris is entering its final phase. After Jannik Sinner secured his place in the semifinals on Wednesday afternoon, he now also knows his opponent: Novak Djokovic!

There is hardly a more worthy semifinal at Roland Garros: Jannik Sinner will face Novak Djokovic (ATP 6) on Friday. The two superstars are in the semifinals of the French Open and can write another piece of tennis history. Sinner unbeaten in 20 Grand Slam matches Djokovic's hopes of winning his 25th Grand Slam title are alive. He's reached the semifinals at Roland Garros for the 13th time.

In this battle of the generations – Sinner is 23, Djokovic 38 – the South Tyrolean has mostly had the edge recently. Sinner has won all three of his last three matches, while Djokovic has won only one of his last five matches against his successor as world No. 1. That was at the 2023 ATP Finals. Since then, Sinner has defeated the Serb at the Davis Cup, the Australian Open (both semifinals), and most recently in the final of the Masters tournament in Shanghai.

Djokovic checkmates Zverev

Djokovic prevailed in the top match on Thursday evening against Alexander Zverev (ATP 3). The German's final score was 6:4, 3:6, 2:6, 4:6, meaning he's still waiting for his first Grand Slam title. In the quarterfinals against Djokovic, however, Zverev was far from his best form. The Serb dominated the match for large parts of the match, while Zverev seemed strangely lackluster.

After Zverev won the first set, Djokovic took over. With finesse and quality, he put Zverev under pressure, who had little to offer against the veteran star. The German played a cautious, unaggressive game, limiting himself to playing on the baseline. This was too little against a strong Djokovic, who served for match point after 3.17 hours XNUMX – and then had to fight a bit more. It wasn't until the fifth match point that Djokovic finally came to fruition, and he was celebrated by Court Philippe Chatrier.
