Austrian woman's cries for help shock ski ladies

The huge series of injuries in the Ski World Cup continues! On Saturday, a prominent Austrian athlete was hit in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

How unlucky can a skier be? Nina Ortlieb has had to undergo around 20 operations in her career, but the Austrian has always come back. But now there are huge concerns again about the 28-year-old, who is the current vice world champion in the downhill.

Ortlieb fell during the downhill run in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and slid into the safety net. It was immediately clear that the Austrian was in serious trouble, as she screamed loudly for help. These screams could be heard on TV and shocked the women skiers. At the finish line in Garmisch, it was suddenly completely silent, and many skiers put their hands over their faces in disbelief.

The race was interrupted for almost half an hour until Ortlieb could be transported away. "My heart is crying," said Sofia Goggia in an interview with Raisport. “I feel so sorry for Nina. She has had so much bad luck in her career.” Kira Weidle-Winkelmann was also in the ZDFinterview. "I've known Nina for so long, we almost grew up together in the ski circus. I hope it's not too bad."

A devastating diagnosis

But these hopes were in vain: As was announced in the afternoon, Ortlieb had broken his lower leg (SportNews reported). The Austrian's injury nightmare continues. Just a year ago, the 28-year-old broke her tibia and fibula while skiing in St. Moritz, and this year she celebrated her umpteenth comeback. But now she faces another month-long break.

The race itself became an Italian affair: Federica Brignone won ahead of Sofia Goggia (click here for the report).
