Bad injury: The Ortlieb diagnosis is here

Nina Ortlieb's fall in the downhill race in Garmisch-Partenkirchen caused shocked faces. The extent of her injury has now been determined.

Nina Ortlieb is undoubtedly one of the most talented skiers in the World Cup circuit. But the downhill vice world champion is also the one who has bad luck literally sticking to her skis. Ortlieb has a virtually endless injury record, which has been expanded by one entry since this Saturday.

In the downhill race from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the Austrian crashed at the Hölle exit. What didn't look very spectacular at first turned out to be serious, because: Ortlieb screamed for help in pain. The race had to be interrupted for half an hour until the 28-year-old could be taken away by paramedics in an aquay.

The lower leg is broken

A short time later, the hospital gave the devastating diagnosis: Ortlieb had broken her lower leg in her fall. The speed specialist is scheduled to undergo surgery on Saturday evening.

What is particularly tragic is that today's operation will be the 23rd in Ortlieb's career. In recent years, the Vorarlberg native has repeatedly suffered serious injuries, such as in December 2023 in St. Moritz, when she suffered a broken tibia and fibula. Torn cruciate ligaments, broken pelvis, torn patellar tendons, and a comminuted fracture of the upper arm - these are just a few of the other injuries that the 28-year-old has had to deal with. Now Nina Ortlieb is being put to another tough test.
