In miserable weather: The return of ski star Kilde

Aleksander Aamodt Kilde had been working towards this moment for over a year, and on Thursday the time had finally come: the Norwegian took part in a team training session on snow again.

About a week ago, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde indicated on social media that he would soon be back would be on skis. Finally, he was equipped with new equipment by his equipment supplier, Atomic. The 32-year-old then traveled from Innsbruck to Norway. On Galdhøpiggen, Scandinavia's highest mountain, Kilde logged his first kilometers on snow after a break of over a year.

"Back on the slopes," Kilde wrote on social media. "The weather could be better." As can be seen in the posted pictures, the sky was overcast at almost 2.500 meters above sea level. There wasn't much snow on the slopes. But the Norwegian didn't let it dampen his spirits – after all, after a long period of suffering, he sees light at the end of the tunnel. It was his first "normal" training session with teammates in almost 600 days.

Kilde fights for his career

After his fall in Wengen in January 2024, he had to undergo five surgeries. First, a cut on his calf was treated. Then, in July of last year, an infection in his shoulder developed that was so severe that he has had to fear for his career ever since.

The conditions left much to be desired.

After his last operation in Innsbruck this February, he is looking positively to the future, although he recently told the Norwegian broadcaster TV2 said: "It took a long time for me to accept that I might never be as good as I used to be. Winning won't be my priority in the future – but this sport gives my life so much meaning that it's incredibly difficult to let go."

However, he has now taken the first step towards his comeback by returning to his daily training routine.
