Nadia Delago: Bad fall has no consequences

The first women's speed weekend in Beaver Creek ended with a moment of shock on Sunday. Nadia Delago had a serious fall in the Super-G on the Birds of Prey, but luckily was uninjured.

The celebrations for Sofia Goggia's comeback victory had already begun in the finish area when Nicol and Nadia Delago, with start numbers 42 and 43, pushed their way out of the start house. However, the Super-G did not go as planned for the Selva women, as neither of them reached the finish. While Nicol missed a gate, Nadia had a serious fall in the middle section. Before the Golden Eagle jump, her skis got twisted, and Delago flew through the air and lay there dazed. The worst was feared.

After a few minutes, however, the 27-year-old got up and skied down the valley. While an injury could not be ruled out at the time, a few hours later it was certain. As the Italian winter sports association FISI announced, the bronze medalist from the Olympic Games in Beijing was not injured. Sofia Goggia also wrote on social media: "A beautiful victory, a fantastic team performance and I am happy that Nadia remained uninjured despite the fall."

A Stroke of Luck Amidst the Chaos

However, Delago will still have injuries and bruises, as the fall occurred at high speed. In view of this, it is uncertain whether she will be able to compete in two Super-Gs in St. Moritz next weekend.
