“Sorry, Mikaela”: Kilde’s romantic congratulations

Mikaela Shiffrin reached a historic milestone on Sunday with her 100th World Cup victory. Particularly sweet and funny congratulations came from her fiancé Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.

100 World Cup victories – that is something to savor. With her Triumph in the slalom of Sestriere Mikaela Shiffrin entered new skiing spheres on Sunday. Will there ever be anyone again who can achieve so many victories at the highest level? It's hard to imagine!

Shiffrin herself struggled after her 100th victory with the tears, And of course it didn't take long for her sweetheart to speak up. Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, the American's boyfriend for years and fiancé since last summer, congratulated his Mikaela in a romantic way.

The greatest of all time?

"Sorry, Mikaela! I know you hate the GOAT discussion. But sometimes your husband should be allowed to brag," Kilde's post on Instagram begins. GOAT is a common term in the world of sports and literally means "Greatest of all Time".

"Today you won your 100th World Cup. Wow! I'm so proud of you and good luck to everyone trying to beat that record," Kilde adds with a laughing emoji. Then it gets emotional: "What stands out even more is the person you are every day. That's much bigger than the number of victories. Or as you say yourself: 'It's just a number.'"

Kilde was not there in Sestriere on Sunday, and there was a reason for that. "By the way, I watched the whole thing from a hospital bed. Just after a planned and (hopefully) final shoulder operation." The Norwegian is still suffering from the effects of his brutal fall in Wengen, in which he was seriously injured over a year ago and cannot compete in any races this year. Now his fiancée Mikaela has put a big smile on his face.
