AHL officially presented - registration deadline ends June 15th

The most important point probably concerned the registration deadline. This was originally set to be binding in mid-May. Now all participating clubs must register for the cross-border championship by June 15th. The representatives of the three associations emphasized that it was important to create an economically stable tournament that was also exciting in terms of sport. Matjas Rakovec, President of the Slovenian Ice Hockey Association HZS said: “I am convinced that the level is not lower than that of the teams that are currently in the bottom half of the EBEL.”

Andrea Gios, President of the Italian Ice Sports Federation FISG, emphasized that the organization of the championship will be carried out by a joint board. “But each nation remains independent and will work at the national level to ensure that the ice hockey movement grows or develops positively.” Milan and Turin in particular need to be included in the medium term, “Valpellice is still undecided about participation This year's AHL concerns." Gios was not yet able to give a final solution with regard to the awarding of the Italian championship title. In all likelihood there will be a Final Four.

Peter Schramm, chairman of the AHL, however, focuses his remarks on promoting young ice hockey talent. “With the creation of the AHL, our young players have the opportunity to compete with young players from other nations. Germany and Slovakia have already expressed interest in the future. Our goal must be to further limit the number of transfer card players. In the medium term, we have in mind the establishment of a major central and southern European championship.”

Dieter Kalt, President of the Austrian Association (OEHV), counts on the support of the EBEL in the area of communication, while Tommaso Teofoli, ice hockey manager within the FISG, sees an opportunity for the young “Azzurri” to be in the top division with a view to the 2017 World Cup Paris and Cologne to grow.
