It doesn't take long to realize how happy Sam Harvey is to be back in Bolzano. When he leaves the ice rink in the Sparkasse Arena after a training session and takes off his helmet for the interview, a beaming smile spreads underneath. This becomes even broader when the Canadian talks about his new home. “It feels so good to be here again. Bolzano is simply extraordinary. I was happy to see my former teammates again and also get to know the new ones at the same time. I live in Girlan again with my family, in the same house as a year ago. And it’s not as cold here as it is in the far north,” Harvey smiles.

The new Bozen goalie has already arrived back in the Talferstadt and can hardly wait to perform magic in front of his fans again for the first time on Friday and Saturday. The feeling is mutual, because last season the 25-year-old played – or rather parried – his way into the hearts of the white and red supporters. His reflexes, his monster saves and his safety were crucial to Bozen making it to Game 7 of the final series.

And so in the summer he ended up in the Finnish first league with Lukko, where the goalie wasn't happy. “In terms of sport, it was okay, I started well and, I think, performed quite well,” says Harvey about his Finland adventure. “But off the ice, my wife and I didn’t feel so at home. In addition, our first daughter Victoria was born at the end of November, which changes the perspective again. It is also clear to the North American goalie that Bolzano is currently in a difficult moment. “This phase is a process and we want it to make us even stronger,” explains Harvey, who last year made his comeback on Sunday and suffered a 0-3 defeat. “Of course it would have been nice to start with a win. But for me it felt good to play again for the first time in a month. Now we want to really step on the gas this weekend.”
