When captain Anton Bernard returned, the HCB showed a great performance and celebrated a deserved 3-1 win. As a result, the HCB kept the pace high and had the lead several times, but either failed due to their own incompetence or bounced off the Salzburg defensive wall.

Even in the final third, Bozen remained the more active team. The White-Reds continued to play consistently forward and were rewarded - again after numerous missed chances to score - just under 8 minutes before the end: Hargrove reacted quickest when in the majority and, with a bit of luck, pushed a rebound over the line to make it 2-1. Salzburg then started the final offensive, but Thomas Raffl and Co. were unable to get through the secure Bozen defense.

When the guests took goalkeeper Lamoureux off the ice in the final minutes for a 6th field player, Arniel scored into the empty goal to make the final score 3-1 and finally turned the ice wave into a madhouse.
