Eppan crowns dramatic four-goal comeback

Two South Tyrolean teams, the Brixen Falcons and HC Eppan, were in action in the Italian Hockey League (IHL) on Thursday. The latter experienced a turbulent evening – with a happy ending.

HC Eppan has finally put its dry spell behind it: After the Pirates last Sunday against the Falcons Having celebrated their first victory after three consecutive defeats, they followed it up immediately four days later – and what a victory it was! Against third-placed Alleghe, Eppan demonstrated their comeback qualities, conjuring a 4-3 triumph from a 0-2 deficit. With 19 points, the South Tyroleans now sit in fifth place in the table.

Goals from Ernesto Alessio (10:38) and Diego Iori (12:17) put Eppan at a disadvantage in front of 410 spectators at the Alvise De Toni arena, but Daniel Eruzione leveled the score with a brace in the second period (21:11/29:45). In the final period, Nicolas Amici (35:15) and Andreas Radin (42:40) gave the seemingly unleashed Pirates a 4-2 lead, before Patrick Isiguzo's goal in the 47th minute sparked a tense final phase, in which HC Eppan held on for the win.

Bitter home defeat for Falcons

The Falcons were still reeling from last week's 2-6 defeat, and on Thursday they suffered another bitter loss against their league rivals, Pergine. In front of 122 fans at their home arena, the Brixen team managed to keep a clean sheet despite being shorthanded for a period in the first period. In the second period, Andrea Meneghini and Michael Sullmann finally broke the deadlock for the visitors, and Mason Emoff and Stefano Marchetti sealed the victory. With ten points, Brixen dropped back to tenth place in the standings.
