The U18 women's dreams of promotion have been dashed

Italy's U18 women's national team remains in Division IA. In the decisive, final group game of the World Cup in Neumarkt, the Azzurre received a slap.

With a win against Japan, the Azzurre could have been promoted to the top division for the first time ever. However, that didn't work. The Asians, who dominated the entire tournament and finished with a goal difference of 21:4, won 6:1. Italy ended the home tournament in South Tyrol in strong second place.

Japan made it clear who was the boss of the house in the first 20 minutes. Last year's relegated team from the top division took a 4-0 lead. Despite an even shooting ratio, Italy could no longer get close. At least Olivia Cambruzzi scored a consolation goal in the second half. Led by Umeka Odaira, who scored three goals, the Japanese made things clear in the final third.

Division IA World Cup:

Japan – Italy 6:1
Goals: 1:0 Odaira (5.06), 2:0 Okumura (6.07), 3:0 Odaira (15.36), 4:0 Tada (17.36), 4:1 Cambruzzi (37.41), 5:1 Odaira (43.42), 6:1 Terauchi (53.03)
