The Blue Team suffered a 0:3 defeat against Slovenia on Saturday evening and finished the international tournament in Poland in last place. The Italian national team was behind after just 45 seconds, but Nik Sever put the Slovenians, who had not won up to that point, in front. Italy only reached operating temperature after twelve minutes, when Luca Frigo from HC Bozen tested the opposing goalkeeper Luka Kolin for the first time. The Azzurri then had two power plays, but were unable to capitalize on the power plays.
In the second period, Italy finally gave up on the comeback. Peter Spornberger and Daniel Tedesco were unlucky with their attempts, Bryce Misley and Pascal Brunner were thwarted by the opposing goalie. Italy could not continue this offensive urge in the final period and thus conceded the 0:2 through Rozle Bohinc, Jaka Sodja sealed the deal with his empty-net goal shortly before the end.
World Cup comes into focus
Between April 27 and May 3, Italy will take part in the World Championship in 1st Division Group A in Romania. There, Coach Jalonen's team will face Sosnowiec Cup winners Poland, Great Britain, Japan, Ukraine and hosts Romania.
