Blow for Italy: Frycklund out for the rest of the World Cup

The Italian national ice hockey team is worried about the loss of its star player Mikael Frycklund. The Italian-Swedish player from HC Pustertal injured his leg on Monday afternoon and will be out for the rest of the World Championship.

In overtime against Ukraine ( 2: 3 nP), Frycklund had to be assisted off the ice. Initially, the consequences were unclear, but after initial examinations, the Blue Team's worst fears were confirmed. According to the Italian federation, the first-line center was taken from the World Championship arena in Sfântu Gheorghe, Romania, to the nearest hospital. A precise diagnosis has not yet been announced, but the bad news has already been delivered: "The initial results make it clear that Mikael will no longer be able to play on the ice at this World Championship," the federation said.

The 31-year-old's absence would be a huge setback for Italy. After the defeat to Ukraine, coach Jukka Jalonen's team is under considerable pressure in Group A of the World Cup, and a player of Frycklund's caliber can make the difference in moments like these. The Azzurri's next challenge awaits them on Wednesday against Poland (1:15.00 p.m.). They face Great Britain one day later (11.30:15.00 a.m.), and on Saturday they face hosts Romania (XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.).
