Alongside his wife Celeste and his dog Bowie, mother Sandra and father Peter Draisaitl were also on the ice at Rogers Place in Edmonton when the Oilers honored their German star forward for the milestone before the game against the Los Angeles Kings.
Draisaitl broke the 1.000-point barrier in December, becoming the first German ice hockey player to do so in the NHL.
Narrow defeat against the LA Kings
"When you look up at the arena's rafters with the banners of all the great players I admired as a player, and now your own son is part of that history, it's truly amazing," said Peter Draisaitl on the sidelines of the Oilers' narrow 3-4 shootout loss to the Kings. Leon Draisaitl scored Edmonton's first two goals, bringing his season tally to 22 and 23. The 30-year-old from Cologne now has 1019 points.
