Once again, Swiss Devils captain Nico Hischier found the net, scoring four (!) goals in both games against the Wild and thus playing a decisive role in winning the season series.
The Devils had taken the lead twice in regulation time. Luke Hughes scored from the left face-off circle to make it 1-0 (13th minute). Hischier scored with a tip-in from close range to make it 2-1 (50th minute).
Boldy with 100th NHL goal
Minnesota's Matt Boldy scored a truly spectacular and potentially important 100th NHL goal shortly before the final whistle, forcing overtime with a spin and backhand finish from Markstrom (58th minute). In the shootout, New Jersey's shooters Paul Cotter and Jesper Bratt, along with goalie Jacob Markstrom, showed no nerves and secured their second victory in two days. The Devils and Wild had already met on Saturday night in Minnesota. New Jersey won 5-2 thanks to four goals from Hischier and now added to their tally on home ice.
The Devils are third in the Metropolitan Division and ten points out of a non-playoff spot. The Wild have lost three of their last four games and are in the first wild-card spot in the Western Conference.
