Roman Josi's big evening

Swiss ice hockey superstar Roman Josi has returned to the Nashville Predators. And how!

On Thursday, at the season opener against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Swiss captain played in an NHL competitive game for the first time since February and was involved in his team's decisive goal.

The final period was just two and a half minutes old when Josi passed the puck on the power play to Filip Forsberg, positioned near the right face-off circle. The Swede fed Ryan O'Reilly, who elegantly backhanded the puck over the shoulder of Ohio State's goalie Jet Greaves from close range to make it 2-1. Thus, the game at the Bridgestone Arena was decided in favor of the hosts from Nashville.

Austrian Marco Rossi and the Minnesota Wild also had a perfect start to the season. Minnesota beat the St. Louis Blues 5-0 on Thursday, with the Vorarlberg striker contributing a goal and an assist.

Rossi scores twice

Rossi first assisted Matt Boldy's 2-0 goal (18th minute) and then added the final goal to make it 5-0 (48th minute). Ryan Hartman (16th, 38th minute) and Joel Eriksson Ek on the power play (33rd minute) added the other goals. Filip Gustavsson saved all 26 shots on goal for the Blues.

The Detroit Red Wings, on the other hand, completely botched their season opener with a 5-1 home loss to the Montreal Canadiens. The Red Wings took an early lead through captain Dylan Larkin (4th minute/PP), but by the 28th minute, the visitors from Montreal had pulled ahead 5-1. After that, goalie John Gibson, a summer signing who saved only eight of 13 shots, was forced off the ice.
