The Stanley Cup finalists of the past two seasons lost 2-4 (0-0, 1-3, 1-1) to the Detroit Red Wings. It was also a clash between the two best German ice hockey players: Leon Draisaitl (Oilers) and Moritz Seider (Red Wings).
For the Oilers, it was their third consecutive loss and their fourth in six games of the season. Draisaitl scored his fourth goal of the season from close range in the final period, but otherwise remained indifferent.
Larkin's outstanding evening
For Detroit, which has now won five of its first six games of the season, Emmitt Finnie and Dylan Larkin scored twice. Larkin was directly involved in all four of the Red Wings' goals.
