Jason Williams: A Stanley Cup winner for Ritten

The 36-year-old from Ontario has played 482 NHL games in his career, scoring 95 goals and 135 assists. Last year he played in the German DEL for the Kölner Haie, and from 2012 to 2014 he stormed for HC Ambrì-Piotta in the Swiss NLA, where he was the league's top goalscorer.

Jason Williams began his career in 1996 in the Canadian junior Ontario Hockey League with the Peterborough Petes. In the first two years he didn't particularly stand out. It wasn't until the 1998-99 season that he was able to attract attention and scored a total of 74 points. In September 2000, the Detroit Red Wings signed him as a free agent.

Until 2003 he played mainly for the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks and the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League, but also played 34 games for the Red Wings, with whom he won the Stanley Cup.

He played more frequently in the 2003-04 season, but was hampered by a few injuries. During the lockout of the 2004-05 NHL season, Williams moved to Porin Ässät in the Finnish SM-liiga. After the lockout, he played again for the Red Wings on an offensive line with Steve Yzerman and Robert Lang and achieved a personal best of 2005 points (06 goals) in the 58-21 season.

In November 2006 he suffered a severe concussion and was then unable to build on the good performances of the previous season. In 2007 he was taken by the Chicago Blackhawks (36 points in 43 games), and the following year by the Atlanta Thrashers. Williams spent the 2009-10 season with the Detroit Red Wings, for whom he played 47 games and scored 15 points.

In 2013, Wiliams was named the NLA's top scorer He then commuted between the AHL (Connecticut Whale and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins) and NHL (Dallas Stars and Pittsburgh Penguins) until 2012, before moving to Europe to join Ambrì-Piotta in the NLA. In his first season in Switzerland, he scored a total of 50 points (48 goals and 26 assists) in 22 games, becoming the league's top scorer. In his second year in Switzerland, he was unable to build on these successes due to an injury (8 goals, 10 assists in 32 games). In 2012 he also won the Spengler Cup with Team Canada.

In 2014 he returned to North America to the Oklahoma City Barons, the then AHL farm team of the Edmonton Oilers, where he achieved 53 points (21 goals, 23 assists). Then the move to the Kölner Haien in the DEL. However, he injured his back in preparation for the season and only made 9 appearances (3 assists).

Jason Williams only played in one World Cup for Canada. In 2006 he played nine matches in Latvia, scoring twice against Norway and the hosts and providing 5 assists for a total of 7 scorer points.

Now it is trying to make a comeback against Italian champions Ritten. With the “Buam” he will compete in the third round of the Continental Cup in Klobenstein from November 18th to 20th, 2016. Ritten will face Belarusian club Sharkhtyor Soligors, Kazakh side Beibarys Athyrau and 2015 Polish champions GKS Tychy. The winner and the group runner-up from Klobenstein will then qualify for the super final in January 2017.

Jason Williams: A Stanley Cup winner for Ritten

After defender Brad Cole and striker Jared Gomes, Italian champion Ritten has hit the transfer market again and signed a former Stanley Cup winner for the Continental Cup in Klobenstein in mid-November. The “Buam” signed Canadian winger Jason Williams on Friday.
