Next new addition: A US boy strengthens Bolzano's defense

Wrenn (1,85 m/95 kg) stood out in North America in his youth and captained the USA to the U2008 World Championship title in the 09/18 season. Shortly afterwards, as an 18-year-old, he was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the second round, 43rd overall, and played in the NCAA and WHL for three years. Before the 2012/13 season, Wrenn moved to the ECHL to the Alaska Aces and also made his first AHL appearances with the Worcester Sharks and the Texas Stars in the same year.

In the years that followed, the US boy stayed in Texas before returning to the Alaska Aces in the ECHL in 2015 - this time as captain. In Alaska, Wrenn collected 41 points in the best season of his career, after which the AHL club Toronto Marlies signed him. The defender collected nine points in 41 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs farm team last season. Now the right-wing shooter has decided to venture across the pond for the first time.

Pat Curcio: “An optimal signing” Wrenn is considered a tough defender who always gets involved in the offense. Coach Pat Curcio sees the new addition as an “optimal addition to the defense.” The HCB trainer knows about the defensive man’s strengths: “William not only has a tough shot, but can also distribute the target very well when in the majority. He is a physically robust player who has already been a captain in the ECHL – William will play a big role on our special teams.”

“Win to continue the tradition of this club” Wrenn himself is already looking forward to his time away from home: “I’ve heard great things about the city of Bolzano and its fans. I'm thrilled to be able to play in Europe and will give everything to be successful with the team." The newcomer is optimistic about his sporting role in Bolzano: "I know that the EBEL is a great championship and I'm already looking forward to it this challenge. I like the larger playing fields because you have more time to make decisive moves. You have to run more, but that suits my style of play a lot. My main goal with Bolzano? Of course to win! I want to continue this club’s winning tradition.”

A few days after Matt Tomassoni was signed, HCB Südtirol announced its second new addition to the defense. This is the American William Wrenn, who will join the Talferstädters from the AHL club Toronto Marlies.
