However, the Val Gardena team had more trouble than expected and only won 5-4 in extra time. Both teams played with their best players, Kostner preferred Benjamin Saurer in goal. The best player in the starting third was the visitors' goalkeeper, Thomas Commisso, who saved his team from falling behind with several brilliant saves. Two minutes before the break, Andrea Bertoldi surprisingly shot HC Pergine into the lead. Six goals were scored in the middle third. First, Baniamin and Fabian Kostner gave Val Gardena a 2-1 lead.
