The duel between “David” and “Goliath” took its predictable course from the start: after a first warning shot from Giulio Scandella, the Russians immediately took control of the game and established a clear field superiority. The Italians, who concentrated exclusively on defense in the early stages of the game, defended themselves with all the means at their disposal and kept the score 0-0 in the first nine minutes. In the tenth minute, the “Sbornaja” scored the opening goal: Sabonov deflected a shot from Vladislav Gavrikov and gave Frederic Cloutier the advantage in the Italian box for the first time. Shortly before the end of the first third, Yevgeni Dadonov increased the lead to 2-0 and thus provided the final highlight of the starting period.

In the middle third things started to happen quickly: first Tommaso Traversa reduced the score to 1:2 after a rebound, before Nikita Kucherov restored the Russians' two-goal lead just a few seconds later with a shot into the corner. In contrast to the opening half, Mair's team now managed more shots and appeared dangerously in front of the Russian goal several times. But nothing worth counting came out of it - only Russia scored further goals: With a double strike in the 35th and 36th minutes, “Sbornaja” moved ahead to 5-1. With this score both teams said goodbye to the second period break.

In the final section, Italy completely fell apart. From the 44th to the 51st minute, Russia gave the completely overwhelmed “Azzurri” four more goals and increased the lead to 9:1. In the penultimate minute, the Russians put the finishing touches to the game and scored their tenth goal of the afternoon: Sergei Andronov directed a shot from Alexander Barabanov into the net to make the final score 10-1, thus completing “Sbornaja's” double-digit success.
