Jack MacKenzie suffered a serious head injury.

Aberdeen fan hits own player with seat

Aberdeen FC condemns the attack on its player Jack MacKenzie, who was hit by a seat during a Scottish league match and suffered a serious facial injury.

“The club is shocked and outraged by the scenes that unfolded this afternoon following the Premiership match against Dundee United at Tannadice Park,” the club wrote in a statement.

While awaiting further information, the Scottish Premiership club already knows "that the chair was thrown from the stands where the Aberdeen fans were," the club wrote. Fans were asked for their help in identifying the perpetrator. "Once the perpetrator is identified, we will take all available measures."

The Scottish League condemned the act according to with the BBC in a statement as "idiotic behavior." They will await reports from the referees and police before imposing penalties.

Pitch invasion triggers riots

Aberdeen had lost their final league game of the season 1-2 at Dundee, dropping them to fifth place. After the final whistle, there was a pitch invasion. Objects were thrown from the stands, including ripped-out plastic seat shells. One of them apparently hit MacKenzie in the head.
Images show the 24-year-old defender receiving medical treatment on the pitch. Despite the white bandage around his head, a lot of blood was visible. He was then carried off the pitch on a cart, his hands covering his face.
