Chelsea solves tricky task at Club World Cup

Chelsea FC has overcome its first hurdle at the Club World Cup in the USA with flying colors.

Two-time Champions League winners Chelsea FC kicked off their Club World Cup campaign with a win. The English Premier League champions beat Los Angeles FC 2-0 (1-0). The goals for the London club came from Portuguese Pedro Neto (34th minute) and Argentinian Enzo Fernandez (79th minute).

In Atlanta's sparsely attended Mercedes-Benz Stadium, LAFC fielded several familiar faces, even in Germany. The US team's coach is longtime Hannover 96 player Steven Cherundolo. Los Angeles even missed several chances to equalize in the second half. The introduction of longtime Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud posed a greater threat. The 38-year-old Frenchman had won the Champions League with the London club in 2021.
