Club World Cup: ManCity starts with easy win

Manchester City did not put a foot wrong in their opening match at the Football Club World Cup.

Pep Guardiola's star-studded side beat Wydad AC of Casablanca 2-0 (2-0) in Philadelphia on Wednesday. The goals came from Phil Foden (2') and Jeremy Doku (42'). The English side's other group opponents are Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates and Juventus.

City got off to a lightning start against the Moroccan record champions. Foden slotted home a rebound after 1:51 minutes, after Wydad goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid had poorly parried Savinho's shot into the middle. The "Citizens" were in control, but it took a set piece for the second goal. Wydad defended carelessly from a Foden corner, and Doku came from behind and dived to fire the ball home from close range.

Star striker Erling Haaland came on in the 60th minute but failed to make a statement. His club colleague Rico Lewis was sent off in the closing stages after an unfortunate move in which he hit opponent Samuel Obeng in the face (88th).
