Cristiano Ronaldo visited the Trump family at the White House

Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has paid a visit to the White House – and apparently made Donald Trump's son especially happy.

According to the Associated Press, the US president said that his 19-year-old son Barron is a "big fan" of the exceptional Portuguese player. "I think he respects his father a little more now, if only because I introduced you to him," Trump said, addressing Ronaldo.

The Portuguese record holder for most appearances and goals will play in another World Cup next year. The tournament will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Saudi Arabia uses Ronaldo as an ambassador

Ronaldo was part of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's entourage at the meeting and dinner in Washington, D.C. The 40-year-old Ronaldo has been under contract with Saudi Arabia's first-division club Al-Nassr since 2022. Whether he discussed world peace with Trump – as had been rumored beforehand – remains unclear.

The 2034 World Cup will be held in Saudi Arabia. The awarding of the tournament there was controversial, partly due to concerns about the human rights situation. Ronaldo has been a vocal supporter of the tournament in the past, saying last December: "After what I've seen, I'm even more convinced that 2034 will be the best World Cup ever."
