FC Südtirol suffered an opening defeat against Piacenza

The newly formed White-Red team played some great football, especially in the second half of the game, and embarrassed Piacenza on several occasions. The South Tyrolean offensive force around Manuel Fiwickeler and Hannes Fink in particular caused danger. However, the former Serie A club acted very cleverly and took advantage of the few scoring opportunities that came their way to seal the away win.

After just three minutes, FCS midfielder Uliano hit the side netting. Together with Furlan and new signing Calliari, he formed the midfield axis, while Michael Bacher surprisingly had to sit on the bench. As the encounter continued, Piacenza found his way into the game better and repeatedly created gaps in the sometimes shaky FCS defense. In the 44th minute, the guests were finally rewarded for their offensive drive with Guerra making it 1-0.

In the second half of the game, FC Südtirol dictated the action. Fink fired a first warning shot in the 54th minute before Fischnelller scored to make it 1-1 after a great combination. But the celebration didn't last long, because in the 70th minute Piacenza took the lead again through Foglia. The FCS subsequently tried to do something about it, but there were no significant chances to score. After 94 minutes the opening defeat was finally sealed.

In the end, a good performance wasn't enough to start the season successfully: FC Südtirol had to admit defeat to Serie B relegated Piacenza 1-2 on the first matchday at the Drusus Stadium.
