Former UEFA president Johansson dies

The Swedish association announced this on Wednesday. The Scandinavian led the European umbrella association from 1990 to 2007 and was a long-time friend and confidant of DFB Honorary President Egidius Braun.

FIFA and UEFA mourn Johansson The world football association FIFA has mourned the death of Lennart Johansson. The delegates to the 69th Congress in Paris commemorated the ex-president of the European Football Union (UEFA), who died at the age of 89, with a minute's silence.

“The news of Lennart Johansson’s death breaks my heart. He was a friend and a source of wisdom and inspiration," said FIFA President Gianni Infantino: "I will always be grateful that he was UEFA President when I joined the association in 2000. Since that time, Lennart has always been a role model for professionalism and, more importantly, a role model for humanity.”

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said in a statement: “He loved football and served it. He will always be remembered as a visionary leader and the architect of the Champions League. World football will always be grateful to him for what he has achieved.” A minute's silence will be held for Johansson at all UEFA games, the European governing body announced.
