Title at dinner – Bayern German champions for the 34th time

FC Bayern are German football champions for the 34th time. Because defending champions Bayer Leverkusen failed to win in Freiburg on Sunday, coach Vincent Kompany and his team celebrated at a restaurant dinner.

Bayern extended their status as record champions – with 34 titles, they are well ahead of 1. FC Nuremberg (9). This was also their 12th title in the past 13 seasons. Leverkusen triumphed only last year.

Maximilian Eggestein scored in the 44th minute with a powerful long-range shot for Freiburg, who remain hopeful of reaching the Champions League for the first time. In the 49th minute, Leverkusen's Piero Hincapie scored an own goal in front of 34.700 spectators. Florian Wirtz (82nd) and Jonathan Tah (90th+3) at least equalized for Leverkusen.

Leverkusen is eight points behind FCB and can no longer dislodge Munich from first place in the remaining two Bundesliga matchdays. Bayern drew 3-3 at RB Leipzig on Saturday. (see own report).

Coach Vincent Kompany and Bayern players like Harry Kane watched the match in Freiburg in a Munich restaurant. For Kane, it's a special achievement. For the first time ever, England's captain is celebrating the glory of a championship.

For Kompany, who was newly signed before the season, it is the first major title of his coaching career. Two years ago, the Belgian won promotion to the English second division with Burnley. As a professional, Kompany won league titles in England and Belgium. For Thomas Müller, the title win is his farewell championship. The 35-year-old will leave FC Bayern this summer. With his 13th German championship title overall, Müller improved his own record. Second in this ranking is Manuel Neuer, who won the title for the XNUMXth time with FC Bayern.

After being eliminated from the DFB Cup and the Champions League, winning the league title also salvages FC Bayern's season record. Another title is possible. The Munich team is among the favorites at the Club World Cup in the USA from June 14 to July 13.
