Shocking moment: Colombia talent collapsed

Colombian striker Linda Caicedo collapsed during training at the Women's World Cup in Sydney on Thursday. The good news first: she is doing well again.

The 18-year-old Caicedo last scored in the 2-0 win over South Korea and was diagnosed with cancer in 2020 (SportNews had reported). A member of the team's medical staff said the collapse was a response to the stress and physical challenges. Caicedo is doing well again. Colombia faces Germany on Sunday.

The Germans have sporting respect for Caicedo. “She is a very talented offensive player. “So it’s just a matter of defending together,” said midfielder Sara Däbritz from Olympique Lyon on Friday at the DFB press conference in Wyong. Caicedo is considered one of the greatest international talents. She was voted the best player of the tournament at the 2022 South American Championships; Colombia only lost in the final against Brazil (0-1).
