Off to Serie B: The next promoted team has been confirmed

The field of participants for the 2025/26 Serie B season is slowly but surely taking shape. Since Saturday evening, the next promoted team from Serie C has been confirmed.

Just a week ago, Virtus Entella secured the Serie C, Group C title, becoming the first team promoted. Now another team has completed the promotion. Avellino will return to the second division next season.

The team from Campania clinched the Serie C, Group B title on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Sorrento Calcio. Avellino's season finish was particularly impressive: Since February 16, they have only won a single game, ten in a row. Now the former Serie A club is celebrating its big promotion. Andrea Cagnano, a former FC Südtirol defender who has been with the southern Italian club since January and is a regular, is right in the thick of it.

Return after turbulent times

For Avellino, this marks a return to Serie B after its last adventure in the second division ended in ignominy. In 2018, Avellino's Serie B license was revoked due to financial difficulties, forcing the club to start afresh in Serie D. There, they immediately achieved promotion to Serie C, and now they've taken the next step with the Serie C championship title.
