Simone Zanon is once again one of the best full-backs in Serie B this season. The former FCS youth player, who wasn't good enough for a professional contract with the Red and Whites, is doing an excellent job at Carrarese.
Zanon performed so well in the fall that Serie A clubs took notice of the Merano native. Lecce, in particular, were looking to strengthen their right flank. The Apulian club also approached Carrarese, and a transfer seemed imminent. However, the move fell through due to bureaucratic hurdles. Lecce could no longer register players older than 23 for the league – and Zanon is 24.
If the South Tyrolean player continues where he left off in recent weeks, a move to a top-flight team seems to have only been postponed. The topic will resurface in the summer at the latest, whether in Lecce or elsewhere.
